What does 😭 mean?
😭 literally means loud crying: sadness, grief, frustration, or being moved to tears by something beautiful. In practice it is used just as often for overwhelming joy, cuteness and laughter — “this puppy video 😭”.
It overtook 😂 as the most used emoji on X/Twitter around 2020, largely because of that ironic usage. Read the surrounding words to tell the two meanings apart.
